Muon-spin rotation and relaxation measurements, which sense microscopic magnetism through spin polarized muons, reveal that cation-disordered Li[Ni1/2Mn3/2]O4 is a mixture of Li[Ni1/2-[small omega]Mn3/2+[small omega]]O4 and LiMn2O4 phases.
